Situation
A large, well-funded Healthcare NGO working in conjunction with an international health agency was unable to develop a product, supplier and delivery system for the eradication of a major epidemiological disease in Sub-Saharan Africa. Traditional pharmaceutical development channels were unable to meet time and cost constraints.
Actions
Served as the commercial expert member of a seven person international “blue ribbon” team to evaluate product development capabilities of selected product development groups and assess technology transfer, manufacturing development, production and commercial capabilities of well-regarded developing country manufacturers. Additionally, provided general and strategic counsel to the team.
Results
This group created a bold, new strategic approach that produced and delivered high quality vaccine at a cost that the region could afford in time to meet the next epidemiological crisis.
Developed radical new approach that will be applicable for meeting other developing world healthcare needs.
